Making moments

last a lifetime!

Regardless of whether you treat yourself to a photography workshop multiple times a year, once a year or maybe see it as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’; you want to have a great time, capture some amazing images and improve your photography skills. This is where Oz Photo Workshops step in.

We go out of our way to ensure that you get the wonderful shots you’re looking for and have an enjoyable time doing it. We will have you in great locations for the best light of the day; not just for the iconic shots but for those special ‘hidden gems’ that you won’t find in any tour book. Our trips are all restricted to small groups to ensure that everyone is able to get as much individual instruction and assistance as required. This leads to some great stories around the dinner table, where we pick up tips and tricks from one another, while hearing about ‘the one that got away’.

All of our workshops at Oz are led by Alan Barker, who has thirty years in education, both in and out of photography, and has worked with the young, ‘not so young’ and the young at heart. Alan has a calm, easy-going way of working with clients and a knack for explaining complex topics in simple terms.

While we see many Australian photographers on our workshops, Oz Photo Workshops has had the pleasure to partner with a number of international companies and photographers. Through these partnerships we have provided scouting and logistics, along with guiding and assistance through the trip. These companies include:

* Capture New Zealand

This company is spear-headed by renowned New Zealand photographer, Phillip Bartlett, who pioneered the concept of photography workshops in New Zealand back in 2005. Phillip is now running workshops all throughout New Zealand, as well as parts of Asia.

* Visionary Wild

An American photography company who has been providing photography workshop experiences and expeditions since 2011. Their instructors are second to none and at Oz Photo Workshops we have had the pleasure of working with Michael Melford, a noted National Geographic photographer.

* Tom Bol Photography

Tom is a US based photographer with a keen eye for detail. He is adept at wildlife, bird and landscape photography and has taken photography groups to most parts of the world.

Do I have to e a good photographer to enjoy a workshop?

Certainly not!

Oz Photo Workshop experiences are open to photographers of all skill levels, as it is our role to help each individual photographer find and capture their vision, whilst fine tuning or learning new skills along the way.

We look forward to seeing you very soon on an Oz Photo Workshop experience.

Photography is a hobby that has few boundaries; as an individual you can invest as much time, effort and expense as is wholly appropriate for your personal circumstances and you can develop your skills or upgrade your equipment at your own pace. However, for many amateur photographers the chance to step into a world that they can rarely access, with the opportunity to photograph subjects and places never before encountered is the ideal opportunity to expand their photography horizons.

Oz Photo Workshops, based in Queensland, provides photographers of all ages and all skill levels such opportunities by facilitating regular photography workshops around Australia, including Tasmania, outback Australia, alongside photography workshops further afield in New Zealand and Africa. Led by the supremely efficient Alan Barker, a highly experienced photographer, an educator of 30 years’ experience and a master of logistics, Oz Photo Workshops organise itineraries that will take you to places far from the crowds and present you with unique prospects to capture those once in a lifetime images.

Furthermore, when you sign up for one of their photography tours to Outback Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, the Great Ocean Road or beyond, Oz Photo Workshop will take care of every aspect of the trip. All scouting, travel arrangements, accommodation and food are organised so that all you have to give your attention to is yourself, your cameras and having fun! Groups are generally limited in size to 6 as this appears to be the ideal number to generate great comradery, allow plenty of time for one-to-one tuition, and it’s far from unusual for lasting friendships to be made amongst these small groups. And of course, you will have advance notice of all scheduling and pricing, so there will never be any unwelcome surprises once you are on the road.

Often considered the pinnacle of photography tours is one to Africa, and Oz Photo Workshops do not disappoint, offering the ultimate Botswana photography safari, visiting the world-famous Okavango Delta – a vast inland delta that is renowned for its lush and verdant habitat, home to abundant wildlife and incredible scenery, and also visiting the not so well known, but still highly impressive Chobe River – a tributary of the mighty Zambezi River. Getting close up to some of the planets most incredible animals in an unspoilt environment with spectacular sunrises and sunsets will give you chances to capture images that will provide a lifetime of memories. Photography workshops on a Chobe River safari are simply a photographer’s dream.

But as much as you will have the opportunity for unlimited photographs, tuition from Alan and sharing advice and tips with others on the workshop, the focus of all the photography workshops, whether it be on the world’s largest war memorial – the 240km rugged Great Ocean Road, engaging with wintery scenes in New Zealand or on an African photography safari, you will be looked after and catered for to the highest of standards, guaranteeing that you will be able to enjoy every moment of your photography workshop or tour with Oz Photo Workshops.
